Compliance and validation services for Guidelines for Indian Government Websites (GIGW)

GIGW (Guidelines for Indian Government Websites) span the entire lifecycle of a website, web portal/application right from its conceptualization to design, development, maintenance and management. NIC (National Informatics Centre, a premiere S&T institution of the Government of India) has defined these Guidelines with an objective to make the Indian Government web-portals and web-applications conform to the essential pre-requisites of UUU trilogy i.e. Usable, User-Centric and Universally Accessible.

These guidelines were formally released in February, 2009 under the banner as ‘Guidelines for Indian Government Websites’. Trigma’s GIGW Consultancy Services are designed to impart key benefits to web infrastructure of various Government Agencies/ Departments such as:

  • Improve the overall usability quotient and technical competence of the Indian Government websites vis-à-vis International Standards.
  • Facilitate Indian Government websites in achieving citizen-centricity while providing anytime anywhere delivery of government information and services.
  • Formulate policies for sustenance and effective maintenance of the Indian Government websites through their life cycle.
  • Achieve, in the long run, a certain degree of commonality and standardization across the Indian Government websites.
  • Enhance the Government-Citizen Relationship.

These guidelines are divided into three categories viz. mandatory, advisory and voluntary. Explanation and requirement of each of these categories is given as follows:

  • Mandatory: The usage of term 'MUST' signifies requirements and the Departments are supposed to mandatorily comply with.
  • Advisory: The usage of term 'should' refers to recommended practices or advisories that are considered highly important and desirable.
  • Voluntary: The usage of the term 'may' refers to voluntary practice, which can be adopted by a Department if deemed suitable.

We are suggesting our Government sector clients to comply with the mandatory requirements first and with the passage of time we will implement the advisory as well as the voluntary requirements also.
